Living Choices (Ongoing)
International news reports about the transgender community in Myanmar often highlight the different forms of discrimination that transgender people face, especially harassment, abuse, and arbitrary arrests by the police, as well as repressive laws passed on from the colonial era.
Within this context, I hope to draw attention to the other side of the coin – that is, the community’s resilience against these odds, as well as the different networks of social support they have established.
In this project, I explore the stories of trans men and women from various socioeconomic backgrounds around Yangon, as well as the community’s resilience and responses against societal stigma.
